In interdisciplinary project teams, we develop technologies for early hazard detection and population warning in the public and private sectors, as well as for networking control center and crisis management systems. National and European research projects also provide the framework for creating the technological basis for new security solutions for users from security organizations and the private sector. In doing so, we take into account the latest approaches and solutions, e.g. from cryptology, artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G, and collaborate across Fraunhofer and interdisciplinary with internationally renowned scientists as well as users.
In the safety lab, the results are demonstrated realistically together with renowned industry partners and evaluated from various points of view: organizational, technical, legal and sociological. In moderated tours, this vivid demonstration space creates opportunities for professional exchange and paves the way for technologies to be put into practical use.
Research & Development
The safety lab at Fraunhofer FOKUS is a demonstration room and research laboratory and shows networked solutions in the field of public safety that put people at the center. For guests from the fields of science, politics, administration and business, the safety lab offers an independent framework to discuss the interaction of new technologies. It also sheds light on the legal, organizational, sociological and economic challenges for the use of technologies in practice. In various realistic scenarios, it shows processes and technical interrelationships in control centers and monitoring centers and how they can be connected to alerting technologies for the population.
Fraunhofer Center for the Security of Socio-Technical Systems
The newly established Fraunhofer Center started operations in January 2022 and combines the expertise of the Fraunhofer Institutes FOKUS (business unit ESPRI), EMI, IOSB and IVI in the field of security research. For its partners and stakeholders in public safety, Fraunhofer SIRIOS builds a research, test and training environment for coupled simulations of complex security scenarios. Research focuses on digital building and infrastructure twins, secure supply networks and infrastructure, collaborative responder systems, virtual situation visualization and efficiency of communication and response.
