The exploratory study “AI in LMS” examined the prototypical use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques using the example of course-based individual training in the army.
As part of the study, possible added value from the use of AI to optimize training was identified and verified through technical testing.
A survey of technical requirements was carried out with the most important role holders and stakeholders in the army from the relevant area of responsibility. As a result, four AI functionalities (learning recommendations, chatbot, adaptive tasks, dashboard for instructors) were identified, implemented in a demonstrator and linked to a small AI-supported learning environment using the innovative, interoperable Fraunhofer Common Learning Middleware (CLM), a mobile learning application and the existing learning management system “Moodle”.
